The Wenaha-Tucannon Wilderness was created by the Endangered
American Wilderness Act of 1978. Located in the northern Blue
Mountains entirely within the boundaries of the Umatilla National
Forest, it bridges the state line between Oregon and Washington.
Of the total 177,412 acres, 66,417 acres are in the state of
Oregon and 110,995 acres are in Washington. Deep Canyons cut by
rivers and streams into broad tablelands typify the Wilderness. Most
of the water in the Wenaha-Tucannon Wilderness is free flowing
with the exception of a few natural ponds on Moore Flat and numerous
springs scattered throughout the area.
