The Little Missouri National Grassland is the largest National Grassland in the nation at 1.03 million acres. It is located in Western North Dakota and is managed by the Medora Ranger District in Dickinson and the McKenzie Ranger District in Watford City.
McKenzie Ranger District adminsters the northern half of the Little Missouri National Grassland. These areas present to visitors open space, solitude and opportunities to hike, view wildlife and explore the badlands and prairie.
Medora Ranger District adminsters the southern half of the Little Missouri National Grasslands including over 1/2 million acres of federal lands intermingled with about 3/4 acres of private and state land. Rolling hills accented by woody draws, and scenic buttes are characteristic of this district.
