The Comanche National Grassland, named for the American Indians
who inhabited the area, is one of 21 grasslands administered by
the USDA Forest Service. 435,028 acres extending throughout Baca,
Otero, and Las Animas Counties in southeastern Colorado are
seperated into two units - the Carrizo Unit, south and west
of Springfield and the Timpas Unit south of La Junta.
