Past heavy glaciation is evident throughout the rolling
terrain of Kuiu Island. The central portion of the island
is dominated by a cluster of mountains, the tallest of which
is 3,325 feet. Mountains of the island are separated by an
intricate network of waterways and low-lying areas. The island is mostly
covered with a spruce/hemlock forest and extensive muskeg
areas in low-lying terraces or on ridgetop benches. The chances
for solitude and for testing your ability to travel and exist in
wilderness setting are available.
